Transcription: The Spanish were impressed with the Aztec codices, beautiful books painted on wild fig bark paper or deer skin. Codices communicated everything from simple messages to history and religious mythology. Spanish priests considered the codices idolatrous and burned many. Later they commissioned Aztec priests to make new ones to retain a record of the Aztec history.
